Founded by Ariela Shandling, M.S., SLP, Speech Matters provides superior therapy services to individuals of all ages and conditions. Evaluation and treatment approaches are evidence-based and geared towards the specific needs of clients and their families. We provide therapy services for adults and children with delays or disorders in the areas of speech, language, cognition, swallowing, and voice.
Ariela brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to evaluating and treating patients of all ages and disorders. Ariela earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis and her Masters of Science degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences from California State University, Northridge. While at CSUN, she earned a 4.0 gpa and gained experience working with a variety of ages and disorders in the clinic at the CSUN Language Speech and Hearing Center. Ariela completed an internship at Vermont Avenue Elementary School and an externship at Good Samaritan Hospital. While at Good Samaritan Hospital, Ariela received extensive training working with the adult medical population, as well as working on feeding and swallowing with premature and full-term infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. Ariela is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology. She also has her California license from the California Board of Examiners in Speech Language Pathology. In addition to her work with Speech Matters, Ariela works as an inpatient speech pathologist at Providence Saint John's Health Center.
Ariela brings a caring and personal approach as well as immense passion to each interaction, while respecting the great cultural diversity so beautifully represented in the Los Angeles area. Ariela is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French.
